Today we used Video Scribe to introduce a partner. My partner was Corbin. We found the app very useful. It was great for getting information from students without forcing them to do much writing. This app allows us to select images on any topic and include it in any assessment. You can add voice over to discuss images. We can add a musical background to help motivate students. Images can be drawn in front of us, And we can set the amount of time that it takes to draw each image. It could be used to;
1. Tell stories using pacing to help with conveying the mood of the story.
2. Corbin mentioned how it could be used to model more complex Mathematical procedures.
3. Practicing How-to Books could be done by demonstrating on Video Scribe. Partners could each explain a procedure to their partner with minimal writing.
4. I love the idea that a classmate had said of creating Social Stories using Video Scribe.
5. Once the class has completed a presentation on Video Scribe, they could then sketch some of the images for an Art class, rather than using something from the classroom.
Showbie.com creates an account that anyone can use. Teachers can create classrooms with different categories for different subjects. Each student has their own account in Showbie. This is easier to manage than the traditional student login/ password sheets that often get lost. Some advantages to using Showbie is that the textbooks can be converted to audio, or you can have them interpreted for the Deaf, you can also use voice to text to reduce the cumbersome task of handwriting.
I really would have to see how Showbie works from the Teachers perspective before I would really be able to pass judgement on it.
Assistive Tech. Is not about "leveling the playing field"- it is about Enhancing Student Performance.
Assistive technology is an umbrella term that includes assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and also includes the process used in selecting, locating, and using them.http://www.widernet.org/portals/index.php?PortalID=66&PortalPageID=5353&view=public
"Assistive Tech. is not Information Technology."
It is about helping the students, Ie. making learning accessible for all students. Students should be able to use technology everywhere, not just in the classroom. I think of Tyler who uses his tongue to access his touch screen. This means that he can now participate in many tasks that were once inaccessible. Tyler was able to create a rhythmic composition using his IPad and an App to allow this. I have included an image of AT, but it is not nearly as powerful as the picture of Tyler using his tongue to communicate.

This is the quote that I took away from today;
It is the Curriculum that has the "Disability."
